Case Study – UK-based manufacturing Plc.

Client:

  • The client was a 5 site manufacturing business with head office based in Yorkshire
  • IT was represented via the finance function at an Executive level
  • The perception of IT within the business was very poor and there was no visibility of spend and no Strategy

Engagement Brief:

  • Reinvent IT Support to better support the business
  • Ensure infrastructure is fit for purpose and the future

Helpdesk:

Utilising the Run, Reduce, Grow model for IT, Spherix addressed the failing Support Desk in a number of ways:

  • Key stakeholder input on requirements of IT
  • Re-engagement of support staff through side-by-side coaching
  • Implementation of simple, free ticket management solution including SLAs and reporting

Infrastructure:

The infrastructure of the business was not old but was poorly implemented and configured. Working with existing and new strategic partners, as well as a short-term technical contract resource, Spherix achieved a fit for purpose environment within 6 months including:

  • Avoidance of large capital spend on additional file storage through better configuration
  • Move to thin client devices in dusty manufacturing locations reducing lost time through equipment failure
  • Outsource and co-location of server hardware in central data centre
  • Provision of DR through hosted infrastructure solution
  • New WAN connectivity to data centre including resilience at head office
  • New LAN provision in main manufacturing site to support future growth and MRP plans

Other activities completed by Spherix include:

  • Buyout of existing mobile phone contract achieving a 3% annual saving and much improved service
  • Restructure of IT and MI function to provide better Management Information to business through use of core applications
  • Implementation of cloud managed Wireless infrastructure across all sites.
